Youth Health Advocate Coordinator
The STAR-Adolescent Education Program is in search of a Coordinator for our Youth Health Advocate Program based at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The team is in search of an energetic and community focused individual to coordinate a Department of Health grant funded youth program in Brooklyn.
: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Education, Social Work or Counseling with a concentration in Sexual Health, HIV/AIDS/HCV/STI prevention, LGBTQ Health and Community Engagement activities. Should have some knowledge of working with adolescents who are trained Peer Leaders. Must have excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills. Full-Time Position from 10am-6pm. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
: Provide supervision to (7-10) Peer Health Advocates who participate in a Youth Sexual Health Program. Conduct HIV /STI/ HCV/Pregnancy Prevention outreach to target populations in Central Brooklyn.
Conduct Sexual Health workshops in NYC Public School settings. Work with community-based Clinics to provide referrals and HIV Counseling and Testing services to at-risk youth in Brooklyn. Provide training, technical assistance, and ongoing support to community organizations providing services to youth. Assist in the coordination of a Peer worker Summer Training Program in HIV Prevention and Sexual Health Education. Attend community network meetings such as Brooklyn KNOWS and THRIVE Meetings. Coordinate all social media initiatives for the YHAP Program under the guise of the Department of Health AIDS Institute. Track Youth Advocate payroll and work hours. Provide ongoing training for the Youth Health Advocates during the program year. Be familiar will scheduling of monthly work calendars and creating community contacts for the program. Assist the Director in completing monthly reports and the entry of AIRS Client data into the system each month. Provide evidenced based workshops to adolescents citywide in college, high school, middle school and after-school settings. Have some knowledge of the implementation of the Be Proud! Be Responsible! and Community PROMISE training curriculums utilized in evidenced based trainings. Assist in the coordination of two major Youth Network conferences and events during the program year.
: $45,000-$60,000 annually.
